I have 2 Ibanez sr885 5 string basses, a 2000, and a 2002., the 2000 I bought new, and it still plays well, the 02 I bought used and the electronics are shot., there’s about 4 miles of wire, and more components than the space shuttle in there., I want to go passive on both of them, starting with the ‘02, I really need to get on that project.

Somebody had to wreck that neck. I've never seen a bad Lakland bass. I'm wondering if the bass was kept in a high humidity environment with high string tension.

Damn. Companies are just getting piss poor cheap.

I have a Gator case with the same issues. I tried hot glue, gorilla glue and then gave up. It kept popping loose. My next step thought was rivet the strap in place using some washers to kept the webbing and bracing the plastic. Couldn’t find my rivet gun so I will try your method.

My Ric case failed the same way..twice. I complained and they sent me a new one…same. Scheit

I have one of those exact cases for my Fender US Tele... I'll have to see if mine has the same fate (just taking it on a 12 hr drive to a vacation spot and jam with my buddies in the Okanagan)

Fibreglass and/or plastic cases are generally garbage in my view. If, when the hinges don't crack at their fixings, or as happened here, the straps fail, there are other traps. More often than not they employ an aluminum/alloy strip around the edge so to provide structural rigidity and ensure the top keys into the body when opening/closing. This lovely sharp cornered addition is created to guarantee the infliction of a delightful scratch along the guitar's finish at some point in the case's lifetime. So better to buy plywood cases peeps, or at least avoid using anything with metal strips adorning it, including the fancy carbon fibre jobbies.

Dave, here's another question for the common sense department. Why does that shitty case get poodle interior and they took the poodle interior away from the G&G custom shop cases? Fender is Absolutely Losing It!

I'll be "that guy"... You could have put metal grommets thru the doubled part on each end of the strap so the screw doesn't abrade the webbing. No, I don't think it is required - but you could have...

I have Fender moulded case from the 90’s that’s still in great shape. It’s my “leaving the house with a Strat” case. Seems they’re not making them like they used to.

My G&L has a case just like my 1972 Precision had. The good old days 🎸
